Our Philosophy & Sustainable Design Guidelines:

Green Curve Studio’s methodology of sound environmental design & product specifications was initiated about 12 years ago and consists of several different approaches.

  1. Life Cycle: we design interiors with a life cycle of at least 10 years. This includes efficient & functional floor planning that will meet current & future needs for space and patient / staff circulation. Ergonomic work stations that save overall space requirements & contribute to staff comfort & convenience.

Our aesthetic solutions will not require color nor materials change for an extended period of time. This means we study product durability, style, color / material trends & long term forecasts to incorporate them in our choices for our clients. Our website features several office interiors designed 10-12 years ago that have not been updated by our clients because they are still looking current and invoke emotions of celebration.

Because the more complex the system the more stable it is, we deform spacial geometries by using principles of broken symmetries, non linearity, formal collisions & topological transformations in order to increase complexity which in turn increases stability of the experience thus allowing more people to enjoy the space for a longer period of time. Historically this was done by the layering of elaborate details throughout interior spaces and holding strict symmetries as can be seen in older buildings. Nowadays most people cannot afford such level of detail & a need to preserve resources makes our approach of designing heterogeneous, more complex interiors using these principals work very well for our clients.

  2. Construction methods: we specify that all wall framing be done with metal studs instead of wood and on some projects paperless drywall that is moisture & mold resistant.

  3. Lighting design: all of our projects include energy efficient fluorescent lighting systems such as CFLs, T5 & T2 lamps as primary and LED lighting for secondary or special effect lighting. LED technology has been making great progress lately & find we it very useful in our interiors. Lighting controls include occupancy sensors, dual switching circuits & level of illumination sensors that adjust amount of lighting depending on amount of natural light entering the space at particular time of day.

  4. Materials: we use a lot of linoleum instead of vinyl flooring as this is a more sustainable product due to the fact that it is manufactured from linseed oil instead of PVC. All of our flooring materials are installed with low VOC ( volatile organic compound ) adhesives to reduce off gassing, same applies to paint. Other materials we use extensively are metals, slate, ceramic tiles, bamboo, stained concrete and when we use synthetic fibers we choose factories that have the smallest carbon emission footprint or are certified by EPP, Greenguard , Greenseal or conform to STMetrics.

  5. 5. Special effects: our favorite is an Eco resin panels ( as manufactured by 3form company ) which we use as partitions, back lit panels, hanging platforms etc. further enhancing the look & sustainability of the interior. These panels are non-toxic, co-polyester sheets made from recycled content.
